Hockey Regina excitedly announces that their 2025 Scholarship Recipients were awarded this past week.  Overall, eight recipients received a total of $9,000 in funding to support post-secondary education in the 2025-2026 school year.

2025 served as the inaugural year for the distribution of the Danielle Munson Scholarship, a fund established in honour of Danielle Munson, a long-time member of Hockey Regina who passed away this past Spring. The fund, which is managed by the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation, was established by Munson’s parents Talvin and Pamela and is designed to fund a minimum of one scholarship per annum to an individual who has played in the Female U18A Division in the prior season.

The 2025 recipient was Tyler Bzdel, a standout student-athlete who was a consummate friend and teammate to Danielle throughout their respective playing careers. Bzdel is currently enrolled at the Canadian National Institute of Health in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.

Bzdel, who was represented by her parents due to enrollment out-of-province noted that she was truly honoured

“Not only did I share the ice with Danielle, but we also grew up attending the same elementary school and high school.

Her passing has had a significant impact on my life. I’ve realized how precious life is and I am proud that I was always a good friend and teammate to her.

This scholarship inspires me to continue striving for excellence and to continue to be kind and compassionate to those around me. Thank you for believing in me and investing in my potential.”

Hockey Regina was also very pleased to collaborate with the Regina Pats, longstanding partners of Hockey Regina who awarded three scholarships, the first being to Ryan Clark of the Regina Pat Canadians who is continuing his studies at the University of Regina. Clark received his scholarship at the Pat Canadians Year End Ceremony earlier this offseason.

The Pats also introduced two new scholarships developed to support individuals enrolled in the Regina Rebels Female Program, with the 2025 recipients being Tyler Bzdel and Jadah Trask.

Trask is presently enrolled at the University of Regina in the Bachelor of Arts – Psychology Program and will  begin giving back to the game by serving as a Head Coach with a U11C Female Rebels team in the 2025-2026.

Regina Pats CEO Gord Pritchard was on hand to present cheques to Trask and the parents of Bzdel and added “it is truly a privilege of the Regina Pats organization to provide funding to support these young athletes as they continue to their academic journey” and “having the opportunity to meet Mr. Munson and share in the celebration of Danielle’s legacy was truly a remarkable experience. The Pats organization were honored to be able to present funds alongside the Munson family this year”

Hockey Regina awarded four scholarships to selected recipients, with Joel Alberts (University of Regina – Bachelor of Business Administration, Sport and Recreational Studies), Andrew Liu (Queen’s University – Bachelor of Health Sciences, Pre-Med), Kale Sitter (University of Regina – Industrial Systems Engineering) and Leighton Wurm (University of Saskatchewan – Engineering).

“2025 was truly a remarkable year for applicants”, said Amanda Hungle, Hockey Regina Executive Director. “Through the generosity of our local donor partners, it was a privilege to be able to provide support to our graduating players who have been outstanding athletes and role models in alignment with the Hockey Regina mission of Building Community through Hockey”
